I prefer the latter, just because "Thaumaturgy" is a superior and brilliant looking word. I will admit, though, it has some religious connotations that sour it somewhat. It just rolls off the tongue more cleanly - perhaps because it's similar to "dramaturgical"?

I kind of like the word in and of itself, but it just doesn't "feel" right, for what I'm going for. I may email you later tonight when I get home to give you a better idea of it... Mostly because there's a word or three missing from the above options that I left out due to my extreme paranoia with my writing, and knowing what those are might help you out a bit.
