Current Stuff- Reader's Digest Update.

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 25, 2009, 12:06 AM
In no real particular order.

ART LIST

-Bone Griffon ships, Orcs, Dark Elves: No new progress.

-Finish my new ankh necklace... DONE. And looks fabulous. Will try to have a pic up soon, as not only have I finished it, I've got a whole OTHER one (a variant) done too!

-Short Story: may type that while I'm waiting for muffins to bake...

-Comic project: See item one....

-Scan/finish tattoo outline: Yup, see item one.

-Clear/organize/Clean off art desk: Will likely be done tomorrow in anticipation of arrival of guests for thanksgiving on Thursday.

-create the mold I want to try: .... learn how to work with resin... If this works, it will be AWESOME! First mold is done. Am MUCH excited, and have decided to make more, so when I make my first resin pieces, I'll have enough to do.

Non Art Stuff

Shed is cleared out, mostly. This weekend will be raking and getting the side side yard free of dead weeds/grass.

So... that's it. Am off to keep an eye on the muffins. It's technically a bread/loaf recipie, but I certainly don't see why it won't make a decent muffin. *nods* Anyway... Toodles.

Later.

The Current "To Do" List..... [update]

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 15, 2009, 12:40 AM
In no real particular order.

ART LIST

-Bone Griffon ships: done, just need to do the removable decking pieces, the trebuchet, and the damned whales (pun totally intended, as they actually are undead whales...)

-Orcs: Still need to touch up the nicked ones, and fully paint about 4 individual pieces.

-Dark Elves: Most are half painted, about about 3-4 are just primed. Thank goodness they aren't toooooo bad. Just need to DO them. I think the assassin'll be the one who ends up giving me the most trouble.

-Put batteries in digital camera (grrr) and see if I can get some decent shots of my finished bottlecap pendants. THEN find the cord that lets me plug in the camera to the computer. Camera was a bust... apparently, the one we have just doesn't like being up close and personal. I HATE digital crap....)

-Finish my new ankh necklace... IF I can find the stones/beads for it that are "just right" (this on in particular sucks, because I REALLY want to work on it, but somehow, until I get the stones/beads, I just can't... talk about artistic frustration, LOL)

-I've got 1/2 to 2/3 of my first short story written, now I just need to type what I've got. One, so it's typed and I can do easy editing, and two, because it wouldn't surprise me that as I type what I have, the rest may come...

-Comic project. I have GOT to sit down and take the thumbs I've done and transfer them to the proper boards. IF I can get over feeling like I'm just not good enough to do it. (note- I hate backgrounds. I'm beginning to think maybe I'm more a pin-up/tattoo sort of artist than a sequential art sort of artist... But we'll see...)

-I found out that they actually sell sets of little artist trading cards, so I picked up a pack. I've always loved little bits of art like that and really, there's no reason I shouldn't. I think my first one is going to be one from a tattoo design I'm in the middle of doing.... CEP, that's all I'm gonna say on that... but the letters will be clear when I get it done. *evil squee sort of laugh* I may even do that one tonight after I'm done here.. DONE! Bwahahahahaha!! I even uploaded it to... and now you shall see what CEP stands for. And hopefully find them as adorably cute as I do.

-Speaking of which, I need to scan said tattoo, so I can print out part of it, to flip it and use a lightbox so I can get both sides symmetrical. Or use the lightbox for the copy, then use it again to get it done... either way. I need to do it, if nothing else so I can make a copy of the FULL piece so I can color it, too.

-I've got a few more prints I'd like to color... BUT.... my art desk is currently in 3D mode, not 2D mode... so until I either finish some of my 3D projects, and/or clean the damn thing off... it's likely to stay that way. Which sucks, because I've kinda been in the mood to work on those, too.

-Sun's project. Working on that a little bit at a time, so it's coming together, if impossibly slowly. (mental note- next time, IF there's a next time, go smaller! LOL)

-Need to find a weekend to take a trip with my dad out to the beach to find shells to fix his picture.

-create the mold I want to try.... learn how to work with resin... If this works, it will be AWESOME! Mold has been started. I lost patience with a bunch of thin layers, so I just dipped the damn thing in the mold compound, and am letting it dry. Will likely do this a few more times... Patience like THAT I can do, because then I can at least do other stuff while I wait... *is much excited*

As for the non-art stuff.... the yard work continues to go well. This will be the fourth weekend in a row, and I'm pleased with the progress made. Especially so since I've been the one to do most of it! :) Next weekend we clean out the shed- the precursor to it being torn down here in probably a month or so... The inside of the house is, well.. still the inside, BUT we haven't gotten worse. We've KEPT the purple room completely clean. The office is not that far behind (I'd KILL for a small fling cabinet, though, for all my paperwork crap). The living room is likely about on par with the office, if just because we're always in it, but it still only takes a short bit of time to clean. The rest of the house has been likewise pretty much stagnant. Not exactly great news for some of the rooms, but at least they aren't any worse than they were to begin with. And it's looking like "my corner" is going to get a much needed purging sometime here in the next month or so... I'll admit I'm a bit worried, but it probably won't be as bad as I think.

Anyway... that's it for now... I'm going to go either go to bed, or maybe start my trading card. Not sure yet. Either way though, I'm off for the night.

Later.

Too Much Discovery Channel...

Tue Nov 3, 2009, 11:35 AM
Well, technically, there's really no such thing, BUT.. that's the conclusion I came to last night after an almost hour long internal monologue by a hopefully future me.

See, every so often, my mind likes to play the daydream game. You know the one. Where it's the future and you've managed to successfully accomplish whatever it is you are actually currently working on.

In my case, at the moment, that happens to be one of two things- a new secret project concerning my bottlecap jewelry, and the short stories I am trying to write.

Last night's daydream was an internal monologue that happened to be the introduction to a collected edition of a series of my short stories. Simple enough, really, giving little clues as to how the story differed from the "standard" of each of the genres I've mixed together.

Then it tangented off into possible reasons why more people don't do what I'm doing, and THAT in turn led to an almost professor-like lecture on how to change or create even ONE thing, you have to have an entire background structure. A good visual would be the standard iceberg- if you want to change one little thing, or make up one little thing, you can- that's the tip of the iceberg... but in order to be able to DO that, (because "magic" can only explain just so much before it becomes so unreasonable that you lose the reader entirely) you have to understand, research, and create the entire huge rest of the iceberg that is under the water, that no one is ever going to see.

That way, you can write that one sentence with confidence that you know what you are talking about, even if the rest of that iceberg never sees the light of day.

The example I used for this one of my favorite characters in my world, who happens to be a vampiric being that isn't quite like any other. And for a simple 3-4 sentence paragraph, describing how he walks through an open air market during the day, I have an entire notebook dedicated to the base type of being he is- the different kinds, where they live, what they eat, how big they are, their basic temperments, how each is regarded in various areas of the world, their entire biology of how and why they work the way they do, powers, abilities, etc. AND, another half notebook dedicated to his vampire side- their biology, physiology, psychology- how and why they work, powers, abilities, ways they can die or be killed, how they become vampires, how the vampirism is trasmitted, what biologically and psycologocially happens to various classifications of creatures once they are infected (a vampire biting a deer will have different effects than a vampire biting a human, after all)...

And then THAT spiraled off into the actual mechanics of the transmission of the vampirism in my world, which, admittedly, probably gave me as many questions as it did answers.... but still.

Then end result of all of this is the revelation back in the present that I've watched WAY too much Discovery Channel.

Yeah.

My mind works in weird ways sometimes... LOL.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Quiet NOT so Busy TIme....

Sun Oct 4, 2009, 12:05 PM
So, yeah. I've been really quiet lately... Haven't gone a whole lot art wise.

I got a bunch of bottlecap pendants done before Con, so that's good. (I will try and get a decent pic of them all up soon), and delivered the three I had commissions for (one of which I DO have a pic for)..

Haven't touched the comic in a while, which I REALLY need to do... Such a shame I've only got one art desk, lol. Oh well, even if I did have a second one, I've nowhere to put it..

The one I do have is currently flat, as I have been painting figs instead of drawing comic pages. On the plus side, the Bone Griffon fleet is almost done. Well, the ships are, for the most part. I have some sails and some decks to do, and the 6 undead whales... but the ships are almost done. Once I've got them complete I may take a break and see what I can get done on the comic.

Other than that, I don't have much to report, other than it seems like ever since I decided to do jewelry with bottlecaps, I see it more and more. I don't know if that's just my luck, or if it's just that I started noticing it more, or some combination thereof... It's ALMOST a little discouraging. But, oh well. I'll keep doing what I'm doing, because I DO like them, and I haven't seen anyone else put chainmail on them (thank the gods for THAT)... And I have a few other ideas in the works for them too, as soon as I get the logistics figured out. May go out and look at stuff for that today....

Oh, and if ANYONE has worked with resin, and is willing to tell me what it's like to work with, I'd be much appreciative. I don't need to know WHAT you do with it, just what it is like to work with- easy, hard, time consuming, a pain in the ass but worth it, etc. So far I haven't had any luck fining much about real-world experience with it... the few people I've asked seem terrified I'm going to steal their ideas, despite the fact that I've already been doing the same sort of thing just as well without the resin, and in fact want the resin for making molded type stuff.

Sun's project is progressing. Perhaps not as fast as I'd like, BUT... it IS progressing. That's what I get for trying something overly ambitious, right? LOL. Ya'll will understand when it's done. :)

I've got some prints I'd like to color here soon too (I'm beginning to think I'm more of a colorist with my watercolors than I am anything else, but hey, we'll see. I may yet "find my voice" with the comic...)

Anywho... um.. I think that's it for now.

Think I'm going to take off to the hardware store for some ideas...

LATER.
